At Home STEAM Project: 001

Welcome to The Renaissance Child's At-Home STEAM project library! We have decided to compile some engaging STEAM projects that you and your children can do at home. With each project we will keep the materials simple, the instructions easy and the goals will always be learning but in a fun way. First up, we have the simple act of cup stacking. Take a breath as this could lead your child directly into the competitive world of speed stacking! For now though, let's stack some cups and learn some things along the way.

001: Cup Stacking

For today's project, have your child build the tallest structure they can using paper cups.

What you need:

-As many cups as you have access to (preferably paper for the environment)

Instructions:

-Give your child the cups and challenge them to build the tallest structure they can!

-Encourage them to be creative while building

-Make the structure look like something

-Use different colors

-Make a pattern

-Add other variables (craft sticks, paper, etc)

What they learn:

-Fine and gross motor skills

-Hand-eye coordination

-Concentration

-Spatial relationships (under, over, on, and around)

-Cause and effect (when the stack eventually collapses)

When the project is complete:

-Take a photo of the structure and share it with us! Tag us on social media and use hashtag #theRchild, we can't wait to see the results.
