At Home STEAM Project: 003

Did you know that water sticks to itself? With a few simple things, some of which you can find in your pocket, your child can be learning about surface tension in a fun and engaging way. So without further adieu, let's drop water on pennies!


003: Water Drops on a Penny

Challenge your child to see how many drops of water they can fit on a penny.

What you need:

-A penny

-A water dropper

-Water


Instructions:

-Set out the penny, a cup of water and the water dropper.

-Challenge your child to see how many drops of water they can fit on a penny.

-Make it competitive, try it more than once to set new records.

-Ask questions, why does the water stick to itself, where else have you seen this happen?



What they learn:

-Surface tension

-Trial and error

-Patience


When the project is complete:

-Take a photo of the structure and share it with us! Tag us on social media and use hashtag #theRchild, we can't wait to see the results.
