At Home STEAM Project: 006

Why does it rain and what are clouds? Using this project you can discuss these questions, evaporation, condensation, precipitation and more with your kids. It takes a little patience but watching the changes in the water cycle hour by hour and day by day can be something your kids look forward to.

006: Water Cycle

Using only a zip lock bag and some water you too can make it rain!

What you need:

-Water

-Food Coloring

-A Ziplock Bag

-Tape

Instructions:

-Draw a sun, clouds and water on a Ziplock bag

-Fill roughly an inch of the bottom of the bag with blue water and seal tight

-Tape it to a window that gets good sunlight

-Monitor the activity in the bag over a few days and take note of how the water changes

What they learn:

-How water evaporates into vapor with warm sunlight, how as the vapor cools you witness condensation similar to a cloud and after there is enough water in the cloud we have precipitation like rain.

When the project is complete:

-Take a photo of the structure and share it with us! Tag us on social media and use hashtag #theRchild, we can't wait to see the results.
